Typically, the daily morning walk from one’s bedroom to the main level of the home isn’t anything special.

In some homes, however, the design delivers something compelling and upbeat. Those homes can make sure even Monday mornings are off on the right foot.

This can be experienced in the Encore by Trico Homes. Measuring 2,207 square feet, this front-drive single-family model is currently on display in the award-winning southeast Calgary community of Legacy.

It has four bedrooms above grade, including one on the main level.

On the second floor, there are two secondary bedrooms along one side of the hallway and a master bedroom up front.

In each case, their respective occupants begin their day by crossing a bonus room and small hallway before reaching a curved staircase to the main level. This hallway overlooks a luxurious open-to-below great room.

Based on this feature, the rear-facing wall is two storeys tall. This wall, including the end of the hallway, is largely covered in generously sized windows.

The result is both extended sight lines, such as trees and sky, along with an inpouring of natural light.

Arches are an upscale touch used throughout the home, including a niche in the great room where an elongated fireplace is located. Arches are also used as entryways, including ones for the ensuite and kitchen.

The kitchen is L-shaped with an island attached to a wall facing the dining area. This island offers overflow seating for times when guests are over for dinner, with its eating bar and seats for four people.

In the kitchen, there is a wall oven and fridge with french doors on one wall, and an open range beneath an elegant hoodfan on the other.

This is actually one of two cooking spaces in the home. Along the wall the island attaches to, there’s access to a secondary kitchen, sometimes called a spice kitchen. This area can be used for restricting aromas associated with preparing flavourful cuisines to this space alone, rather than drifting to the great room, for example.

It contains an oven, counter space, sink and cabinets.

The aforementioned main floor bedroom is located just off the foyer. Rather than the typical main floor half bathroom, there’s a full bathroom. This means the occupants of the bedroom have everything they need on one level. This can be useful for people who need to avoid regular use of stairs.

On the second level, the master bedroom reaches 12 feet eight inches by 14 feet. It features a tray-style ceiling design and upscale ensuite.

Both secondary bedrooms are equal in size, eliminating the arguments some families see with each sibling wanting the larger sleep space.

Across the hall from the secondary bedrooms is a full bathroom with two sinks beneath a full-width mirror.

Developed basements can be fun, and this one is no exception. In the show home, the rec area is staged with a foosball table.

Friends and family can play a game while enjoying a beverage from the expansive walk-up bar. The bar boasts and abundance of storage with both upper and lower cabinets.

Large families will appreciate that the basement has two bedrooms and a full bathroom, ideal older children, such as teenagers.
