Appearing in Calgary for the first time in many years is real estate and renovation expert Scott McGillivray, congenial host of popular HGTV shows such as Renovation Resort, Scott’s Vacation House Rules and Income Property. The Toronto native has been educating and coaching people about home improvement and real estate investing via television, workshops and digital platforms since 2006 and says he’s eager to meet Calgary audiences.

“Alberta is the most receptive province for those who invest and educate themselves in the real estate space, which I admire. There’s a lot of untapped ambition in Alberta,” McGillivray says.

His home and garden stage presentation will touch on filming Season 2 of Renovation Resort, Season 6 of Scott’s Vacation House Rules and a new American series to be revealed later this year. His primary goal during the home and garden show is to hammer home the message that there is money waiting to be made in real estate.

“I will address the top three things people can do this year to start building a nest egg, whether it’s from participating in the development of real estate or investing in properties or maximizing the property they have. That’s the three levels of information I’ll cover in my presentation,” he says.

After teaching people how to invest in real estate like him, McGillivray will be sharing how to invest in real estate with him through an investment structure that he and his team set up several years ago. Credited and non-accredited investors alike can contribute funds, even registered funds, into his development platform with an annual return of up to 20 per cent. His portfolio consists of mid- to high-rise developments that people can passively get involved in.

“Investing in a project can be intimidating, but we put together a format that’s accessible for people who aren’t ready to go out and get their own property,” he says.

McGillivray and his team of agents and development fund experts will be available for several hours post-presentation. Main stage show times will be posted on the Calgary Home and Garden Show website.

Also appearing on the Main Stage, and back by popular demand, is Brittany McNab of Fifteen Twelve Home Co. who is also the stage designer for the spring show.

Returning for 2024 is Backyard Wars presented by HC Forest Products, a friendly competition in which local landscape companies use their design genius to build a mock mini backyard. Show attendees vote for their favourite backyard set up. And speaking of which, no super fun backyard in 2024 should be without a pickleball court. The exciting new Paddle Paradise feature at the show will showcase a court for pickle ball, which is North America’s fastest growing sport. Daily demos and information on all the equipment required to for the sport will be offered by professional player Jorge Quintero of Edmonton-based Churco Pickleball.
